During the American Revolution, patriots battled not only the British and British mercenaries but also disease. Early in the war, smallpox caused a great deal of illness, many deaths and effected the course of battles. Making use of recent published research and local primary source material, Dr. Al McKee will review some history of smallpox prior to the revolution, will discuss inoculation and some of the politics of inoculation and how it impacted the war effort. He will then share information and stories about smallpox in Longmeadow and surrounding communities.

Dr. McKee is a local physician, historian and president of the Longmeadow Historical Society.
