About the Event
Join us, along with members of the Longmeadow Historical Society, for a graveyard stroll and Longmeadow History Discussion, as part of our Stroll America series. If you've always wanted to learn more about our Town, come stroll Longmeadow with us!
This program explores the everyday experiences of the men, women, and children surrounding death and burials in Longmeadow, focusing on the colonial era. We will identify a sampling of existing gravestones from the period. Using these gravestones, we will share stories about the lives of Longmeadow residents; discuss the information that can be found on the gravestones, including causes of death, family relationships, and symbolism used; and discuss the work of several local gravestone carvers.
The group will meet at the west entrance to the Longmeadow Cemetery (nearest to First Church).
In case of inclement weather, a fully illustrated presentation will be held in the Betty Ann Low Meeting Room at the Storrs Library.
