About the Event

When trained medical practitioners could be hard to find, or expensive, or feared, Americans turned their trust to cure-alls found at their local general store or peddled by traveling salesmen. Some of these nostrums and elixirs promised to cure everything from a headache to cholera, to cancer. Some were very selective in their target focusing on the lungs or digestion. Many contained alcohol or opioids. Come hear some stories of a few of the more popular nostrums and in some cases, find out what happened to the companies that made them.
